Wendy Diane (Roose) Atterberry
February 7, 1950 – January 21, 2026
A Life of Grace, Love, and Beauty
From her earliest years, Wendy carried a light that drew people in. She grew up in an idyllic neighborhood filled with Girl Scout meetings, and the laughter of children running from house to house. Even then she was a "friend to all," and her warmth made everyone feel welcome — including her loving parents, her two sisters Linda and Janice, and her brother Bob. Whether she was cheering from the sidelines as a cheerleader or proudly being the fastest bulb picker at Roozengaarde (a title she wore with a smile), her joy for life and her willingness to work hard were always evident.
In her middle years, that same devotion and heart shaped everything she touched. She worked at the ferries, where her strong work ethic and kindness stood out, and it was there she met Mike, the love of her life. Together they built not just a marriage, but a family and a home filled with love. As the wife of a commercial fisherman who was gone up to eight months each year, Wendy carried tremendous strength and independence. She held everything together at home, raising three children with unwavering devotion, creating stability, warmth, and love while Mike was at sea. Her love was unconditional, her encouragement constant, and her wisdom steady. She was not just a mother and wife — she was the emotional center that kept everyone connected.
Her creativity and faith were just as central to who she was. As the organist at her Lutheran church, she filled the sanctuary with music and spirit. She was excited to participate in Elsa & Co. , in anyway she could be helpful to her sisters-in-law and nieces, and later created and launched the beautiful and successful flower shop, Lisa-Ashley Flowers & Gifts with her daughters — a place that reflected her eye for beauty and her love of working alongside family. With Mike and her father, she helped remodel their home and design its gardens, creating a space that was as elegant and welcoming as she was. Their home became a gathering place — always open, always warm — where holidays were hosted, parties were thrown, friends were welcomed, and memories were made.
She loved to entertain, to celebrate, and to bring people together. Her children's lives were her greatest joy, and she supported every sport, every activity, and every dream — especially cherishing the summers spent traveling to watch her son Matt play baseball. Her hands were always busy creating beauty, whether it was in the flowers she arranged, the homes she designed, or the beloved Santa figures she crafted and gifted to so many as tokens of love.
Her love for life extended far beyond home. She traveled the globe widely, exploring many countries — she was curious, adventurous, and always open to new experiences. And when grandchildren came into her life, she became a wonderful grandmother, offering the same kindness, generosity, and tenderness that had defined her as a mother.
To describe Wendy is to speak of kindness and grace, energy and an incredible drive to "get it done." She was giving, loving, hardworking, elegant, beautiful, and deeply graceful — inside and out. Her legacy lives on not only in the businesses she built, the home she created, and the places she traveled, but in the countless lives she touched simply by being who she was. A heart so full of love leaves an echo that never fades.
Wendy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Maxine Roose, and her cherished, Lisa Mindi Atterberry.
She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her kindness, warmth, and unwavering devotion. Wendy is survived by her devoted husband, Mike Atterberry; her sisters and brother, Linda, Janice and Robert; her children, Matthew (and wife Autumn) Atterberry, and Megan Atterberry (and husband John Dumas); and her grandchildren Lucca, Lily, and Leo Dumas; Staely and Luca Moore; Phoebe Atterberry; and Jasmyn and Elijah Purcell.
Wendy's family extends their heartfelt thanks to the team at Lighthouse Memory Care, Hospice of the Northwest, and her dedicated caregivers. Their compassion, patience, and gentle presence brought comfort and dignity to Wendy in her final chapter.
