Wilbur Eugene Haney, of Anacortes Washington made his transition on Thursday March 10, 2022 after several years of declining health. He died peacefully with his beloved wife and daughter by his side.

Wilbur was born in Vernon, Ohio on November 10 ^th 1935 to father Raleigh Haney and mother Genevieve Haney. He was the 2nd born of 8 children. He helped on his family's small farm and worked any odd jobs he could find starting at an early age. His work ethic and love of country led him to join the Navy. He was stationed at Whidbey Island Naval base where he met and married the love of his life Betty Haney. They were stationed at Pearl Harbor Navel Station for 3 years and then for special services rendered he received the opportunity to come back to Whidbey Island for the balance of his 20-year naval career.

Will, after retirement, decided to give the family/community business of commercial fishing a try, building a gill net boat and fishing for a couple of years. Then he moved on to another government career with the US postal service where he served for 15 years.

After this retirement, Will and Betty dedicated themselves almost entirely to being a part of their grandchildren's lives. Will and Betty made the trip to Nevada to see the family and be an integral part of their grandchildren's lives many times a year, for 20 years.  Being an inspiring, memorable, loving grandparent was so important to Will.

Will never met a stranger; he had friends and acquaintances all over the world, he liked to talk and joke with all he met and always had a hand to lend to whoever needed it. He had MacGyver-like skills and could mend, build, rigg, or fix nearly anything. Will was a fine builder and finish wood worker, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His presence will be greatly missed.

Will was preceded in death by his parents and 4 siblings: David Haney, Joe Haney, Betty Fraley and Ruth Haney. He is survived by his wife Betty Haney; daughter Suzanne Haney Oldridge; and grandchildren Trendon Oldridge and Gillian Oldridge.

An open house in celebration of Will's life will be held at a yet to be determined date.

Will was a decades long supporter of St. Jude's Children's Hospital and he received such wonderful care from Hospice of the NW in his final days. If you would like to donate to either of these charities in Will's name, it would be appreciated.
