Diane Louise Wilkerson

Diane Louise Wilkerson, 79, of Mount Vernon, Washington was born on January 23, 1929 to George and Achsach Gallacher-McCormick in Mount Vernon. She passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2008 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, following a stroke. Diane attended La Conner schools and graduated in 1948. After graduation, Diane married Harry Wilkerson in 1954 and they lived in Anacortes for several years. Diane was very independent and active. She was always doing something. She followed in her mother's footsteps and was involved in the Rebekah Lodge where she served in different positions over the years. Diane loved to do needlepoint, cross stitch, and knit. She was known to many as the "hat lady" because she made caps for her church and others to be donated throughout the year. If Diane knew you, eventually you'd be the owner of one of her works of art, be it a cap, pillow cases, dish towels, or some cross stitch piece. She loved to give. Diane will be missed by many! The family would like to thank all of the doctors over the years that were there to help her through her many health issues. Diane is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Harry "Tom" Wilkerson in 1979. She is survived by her brother, Bruce McCormick and his companion, Sally Rhode of Mount Vernon; niece, Sharon "Mac" McCormick of Mount Vernon; nephews and spouses, Darrell and Char McCormick of Republic, WA, Larry and Patty McCormick of La Conner, Gail and Kathy McCormick of Ballard, WA, David and Tiff McCormick of La Conner, and Michael McCormick and companion Chong of Eagle River, AK. Diane is also survived by 13 great-nieces and nephews; 9 great-great-nieces and nephews; and her life-long friend, Nellie Anderson of San Jose, CA. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Friday, December 5, 2008 at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes followed by a reception at the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the local food bank, Neighbors in Need in Mount Vernon, WA or to a charity of choice.
