On Thursday, September 29, Jenny Falzone Kingsbury passed away peacefully at the age of 91 in her Anacortes home at Chandler's Square, surrounded in her final hours by numerous family members.  Their presence was augmented by the ever-attentive staff of Chandler's Square and Hospice of the Northwest who brought much comfort and peace to Jenny in her last days.

Her husband, Alan Kingsbury , died in November 2019.  Jenny is survived by two sisters, Esther Howell (husband Robert) and Carol Hall (husband Art), also of Anacortes (a third sister, Rose DeRuvo and husband Joe of Norwalk, CT, are both deceased); by three stepchildren from Alan's first marriage, Doreen Barry, Wayne Kingsbury (wife Julie), and Scot Kingsbury (wife Anne); and by numerous nieces and nephews and families living on both coasts, including Robert Howell, Jr., Jenny Heitzner, Aaron Howell (his gal Cassandra Phelps), all of Anacortes; Elena Lamont of Seattle; and Alesa Cunningham (husband Kevin) of Nashua, NH and Joseph De Ruvo, Jr. (wife Lini) of Stamford, CT.

Jenny was born in New York City to John and Rose Bellone Falzone, of Sicilian origin, and grew up in Manhattan and Long Island City, Queens.  Upon graduation from high school in 1949 and a short stint of office work, she entered nurses training at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan.  After earning her RN in 1955, she had a distinguished career of nearly 30 years at Bellevue.  Among the positions she occupied were Head Nurse of the Prison Ward; Plastic Surgery Nurse, during which time she opened Bellevue Hospital's first dedicated burn unit; and Head of Central Supply.  During her years at Bellevue, she met future husband and love of her life, Alan, whom she married in 1980.  Jenny and Alan were a devoted couple who enjoyed travelling within the United States (sometimes in a small plane piloted by Alan) and abroad both before and after retirement.  Jenny was a confirmed New York City girl, and though she never lost her devotion to the Big Apple, Alan expanded her horizons, enabling her to appreciate small towns and rural landscapes--and even embrace activities like fishing in a canoe on a lake!  In mid-retirement, after many visits to Anacortes, Jenny and Alan relocated from their Connecticut home to the town in 2010 to spend their remaining years near other family members and in the beauty and tranquility of the Pacific Northwest.  Once she had settled into her new home, Jenny confessed that living in Anacortes gave her "a sense of well-being."  Jenny and Alan had spent well over 40 passionate years together when he passed away in 2019.

While Jenny was absorbing new experiences from her life with Alan, there was one passion that had occupied her since childhood.  From a very early age, Jenny was rarely seen in her leisure hours without a book in her hands, and she maintained that habit and her love of books and a good story until the last few weeks and months of her life.  She was always interested in other people's literary pursuits as well:  upon meeting a friend or family member who liked books, she would invariably ask, "What are you reading?"

Though books predominated Jenny's spare time, she found artistic outlet in needlepoint and became a superb practitioner of the art.  Thanks to her talented hands, and her generosity in giving away her handiwork, many of her family and friends cherish decorative pillows and other needlepointed items that she gave them as gifts.

Jenny's biggest passion, however, was her family.  With no children of her own, she showered her generosity on her stepchildren and on her siblings and their children and grandchildren.  Each one has at least a story or two to tell of that uncommon generosity, and all have reason to be very grateful for Jenny having touched their lives.
