Roger W. Hagen was born on June 8, 1931 in Monroe, South Dakota to Clarence and Lulu (Rogers) Hagen. He attended Parker Public Grammar & High School in Parker, S.D. Roger was active in Boy Scouting and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and Craftsman Air Scout. He graduated from South Dakota State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Roger was president of the local chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and was selected to Who's Who in American College and Universities. He did Post Graduate work at the University of Florida in Oceanography and the University of Southern California in Nuclear Physics and advanced Thermodynamics. In 1955 he met the love of his life and married Norma F. Hellert and they had three children Karen, Terry, and Kyle. Roger worked with Westinghouse Electric Co. and Solar Turbine on jet engines. He was awarded several patents relating to turbojet and ramjet engines. Roger worked the last 27 years with The Boeing Co. on various Space and Defense programs in propulsion, fuel systems and environmental control systems. He became an Engineering manager in 1967 and retired in July 1991. Roger served on many boards with the Methodist Church and Boy Scouts. During his years of Engineering he belonged to several professional organizations: the American Rocket Society, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Society of Automotive Engineers, which he served on national Committees. Roger participated in Volunteer Mission work at Church schools and Indian Reservations. He served as President and Treasurer on many committees at the Creekside Homeowners Association in Anacortes and was Vice President on the Document Committee at Golden Vista Homeowners Association in Arizona. After retirement he enjoyed volunteering as a docent at Champlin Fighter Museum, Commemorative Air Force and Flying Heritage Collection aircraft museums. Roger is survived by his wife, Norma ; daughters and son-in-law, Karen Gross and Terry and Kevin Bly, all of Goodyear, AZ; and son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Cheryl Hagen of Fall City, WA; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Hagen of Parker,SD; sister, Janice Ortman of Marion, SD; and brother and sister-in-law, Carnel and Judy Hagen of Kirkland, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the Methodist Church in Anacortes.
