We celebrate the life of William Felix Meany, age 86, a remarkable and humble family man devoted to his Catholic faith who passed from this world on All Souls Day, Tuesday, Nov. 2, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was a proud native of Tacoma, Washington, the youngest of five children born to Richard and Corinne Meany. The tight-knit family relied on love and loyalty to get through the hard times of the Great Depression. After attending Holy Rosary grade school, Bill graduated from Bellarmine Prep in 1952, where his brother, Fr. Neill Meany, S.J., was a teacher. Bill then attended Seattle University ('56) where he met the love of his life, Helen (Corey), his senior year.

The couple married a year after graduation and soon headed off to Hanau, Germany where Bill, a commissioned 2 ^nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve, was assigned to the 507th Maintenance Company.

After giving birth to their first child while in Germany, Bill and Helen returned to the States and eventually settled in Kirkland. Bill spent his professional career in the business finance world, first with CIT Corporation, and then with Safeco Credit Company for nearly 30 years. At Safeco Credit, he diligently worked his way up to the role of president and would be forever grateful for the stability that job provided the family.

Bill was involved in various community organizations including Kiwanis, United Way and he even spent time as a Seafair clown in the 1960s. He particularly enjoyed his eight years as a director with the Independent Colleges of Washington. Bill and Helen provided a loving and warm household, and eventually fulfilled their dream of owning a vacation home on Whidbey Island where the family, including eight grandchildren, made amazing summer memories filled with golf, acting out "skits" on theme weekends, and eating great food (often Lebanese thanks to Helen's heritage).

Bill was an avid reader, especially of history, and enjoyed long walks, intelligent and lively discussions on current affairs, and liked to follow statewide sports teams. Mostly, Bill was the foundation for a close family and a central part of his life involved staying active in his longtime parish, Holy Family Kirkland. In his final years, Bill's commitment to Helen was steadfast as he ensured she would receive the best care possible while suffering from dementia. They were married 64 years.

Bill is survived by Helen, son Mike, daughter Claire Beighle (Doug), and sons Paul (Heidi Marie), and Dave (Heidi Linn), as well as grandchildren Lindsay, Jack, Patrick, Lauren, Sydney, Kathryn, Hannah and Genevieve.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Holy Family Church in Kirkland, 7045 120th Ave NE. A rosary will begin at 10:15 a.m. before the service. Private family burial Thursday at Holyrood Cemetery.
