Elizabeth Ann Townsend, 80, of Anacortes, and fondly known as Betty, departed this world on Saturday, June 25, 2022 with her loving family by her side. Betty was born on August 24, 1941 in Bremerton, WA, one of the three daughters born to Ernest and Ann Elizabeth (Spehar) Dowling. Having graduated from South Kitsap High School she attended Central Washington University in Ellensburg and received her Bachelor's Degree in Law and Justice.
Betty met the love of her life, James Michael "Mike" Townsend in Seattle. Mike was from Anacortes and he careered as a Court Reporter in King County Superior Court. They married on December 22, 1963. Betty careered as paralegal for the Office of the Attorney General of the State of Washington. Two children were born to them (Michael & Lisa), during which time Betty embraced motherhood working part-time as Mike's transcriptionist for his court cases. When the children were old enough, Betty careered as a Tax Payer Service Specialist with the Internal Revenue Service for twenty years before retiring 18 years ago.
Betty enjoyed traveling with Mike; together they participated in local politics; joined the Anacortes Citizens Auxiliary Patrol with Anacortes Police Department and the Anacortes Newcomers Plus, where she served as a President of that organization for an interim period.
Betty was predeceased by her parents and sisters ; she is survived by her husband of 59 years, Mike; her children and grandson Connor Burnham.
