Doris Wright Holmes, of Anacortes, fondly known as Dee, passed away several weeks after her 96 th birthday. She was born in Fort Banks, Massachusetts, on May 22, 1926, the daughter of Thomas and Dee (Corbett) Holmes. Her dad was a Colonel in the US Army serving the nation in both WWI and WWII. Dee grew up as an 'Army Brat'  living in many States during her dad's deployment throughout his service.

During WWII, the Holmes family finally settled in Westminster, Maryland. Dee attended the Westminster High School with  her senior year spent at Hannah More Academy in Reisterstown, MD where she graduated from. Dee went on to obtain her Bachelor's Degree from Western Maryland College and from Rutgers University she obtained her Master's in Library Science.

She embarked on her Library career in Annapolis, MD, then moving on to serve libraries in the Baltimore County Schools.

Upon her retirement, Dee moved  from the East Coast in the late 1900s to Anacortes in the Northwest, taking residence at Chandler's Square a retirement community. She volunteered her time and talents to Island Hospital and to the Soroptimist.

Dee loved solving difficult crossword puzzles and was at one time a fierce bridge player. Her favorite foods included dark chocolate and crab delights. Dee was a cancer survivor. Toward the end, she contracted COPD and neurological problems.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her brother Robert Holmes, COL. USAF Ret., and his wife Marilyn; two nieces and four nephews. At her request there will be no services held. She will be laid to rest in the Holmes family plot in Centerville Maryland Cemetery.
