A man for all seasons, Dick Dudley passed to a new season on Oct. 10 in Anacortes after  22-month battle with the meanest of afflictions, Alzheimer's Disease.

Dick was a true northwest soul who could be found skiing in the winter, hiking in the spring, kayaking in the summer, biking in the fall and golfing all year long.

He grew up in Longview and attended Mark Morris High School. Graced with exceptional hand-eye coordination, he attended the University of Portland on a tennis scholarship, graduating in 1972.  Soon after, he took a position at Weyerhaeuser where he worked for 40 years before retiring in January 2016. After retirement, he and his wife Toni moved to Bend, Oregon where he co-founded the Vocal Seniority, a political action group.

Dick was a true sport with an unquenching zest for life. He was renowned for his on-point humor and constant acts of generosity. He once bought his 10 closest friends a week-long stay at a villa in Tuscany. These are the same friends he spent every New Year's with for the past 32 years.

He was living at the Lighthouse Memory Care in Anacortes when he passed. He leaves behind his wife Toni who was at his side every day through these 22 months. He also leaves his son, Daniel and the light of his life, his granddaughter, Adelaide. In addition, his sister, Diane Thomson, her husband Scott and their children, Heather and Luke and their families will also miss their loving uncle.

Because he loved to cook and relished a good meal with wine and a cigar, a roast in his honor will take place next summer in Tacoma where his friends and family will raise a glass to Big Dick and to a life fully lived.
