Janessa May Huffman, 39, of Anacortes came into this world screaming on August 5, 1981. She passed away Saturday morning, April 24 th with her family and fiancé by her side.
Janessa was schooled in Anacortes and graduated from Anacortes High School in 1999. During her early years she enjoyed going camping, fishing, and especially loved playing basketball. Her goal was to play with her cousin, Holly Morgenthaler, on the high school team. In her freshman year she was stricken with an AVM which led to partial paralysis to her left side. She came through surgery at Harborview and was then moved to Children's Hospital for therapy. With therapy and love for basketball, she was back home after just a month. The doctors were so impressed with her recovery they invited her back down to inspire others in the same situation. She never fully regained full use of her left hand, but she didn't let it stand in her way. She worked at various jobs throughout her life and had been with her last job for the last 8 years. She had two beautiful children during that time, whom she loved and cherished with all her heart and soul. In November of 2016 she met her future fiancé – they were going to be married this June.
Janessa was preceded in death by her two sets of grandparents: Dan & Leola Sullivan and Bud & Lois Awes; aunt, Patricia Studley; uncles: Steve and Rich Awes. She is survived by her father and mother, Jerry and Mary Awes; sister, Jackie (Jimmie) Baker; children, Rylee and Jackson; fiancé, Joe Fowler and his children, Cashlynn and Breckin; aunts & uncles: Barb (Jay) Brand, Kathy (Jim) Stewart, Patty (Pat) Morgenthaler, Danny (Karen) Sullivan, Jim (Kayla) Sullivan; nieces, Samantha and Jennifer Baker; and numerous cousins who she loved dearly.
We loved you sweetheart. You ripped a hole in our hearts, but you will mend it with your memories. Thank you for being you.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Humane Society of Skagit Valley, 18841 Kelleher Road, Burlington, WA 98233. She loved all animals.
A private Celebration of her life will be held at Evans Funeral Chapel.
