Janice Merritt Walker, 89, a long-time resident of Anacortes, WA, died October 14, 2022, peacefully at home. She was born October 29, 1932, in Everett, WA and was the youngest of three daughters of Bertram K. Merritt & Harriet Sophia Spooner. Her grandparents, Will & Sadie Merritt and William & Lizzie Spooner were early residents of Everett. She graduated from Snohomish High School in 1950 and then received her BA from The University of Washington in 1954, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. After graduation she became a schoolteacher at Central Grade School in Snohomish. She met Bill, the love of her life, in 1956 and they were married in June of 1957. She left her teaching career behind in 1958 with the birth of the first of her five children. She devoted the rest of her life as a caring wife and mother.

Through her husband Bill's career with Shell Oil, they moved to Anacortes in 1958 and then were transferred to Houston TX (3 different times), Denver CO, Farmington NM, Midland TX, Slidell LA, and Indianapolis IN. She moved back to her beloved Pacific Northwest in 1992 with Anacortes the last stop in 2001.

Janice was passionate about her church family, singing in the choir and volunteering on the altar guild in her earlier years and volunteering at the Red Door Thrift Shop in her later years.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, William (Bill) Walker, sons Clint Walker (Ann), Blake Walker (Brenda), Wade Walker (Cass), daughter Kelly Walker, grandchildren Travis, Matthew, Miles, and Kaia. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and a wonderful bunch of cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Bert & Harriet, Sisters Frances Peterson and Shirley McDaniel, and daughter Susan Gonzalez.
