Marvin Roy Queen, 82, of Anacortes, passed at Island Health on Monday, February 27, 2023.  He was born on September 6, 1940, in Emmett, ID; the son of Roy and Jessie (Redington) Queen. Marvin spent his early years in Emmett and graduated with the Class of 1958 from Emmett High School. He enrolled in ROTC in college and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry & Natural Resources from the University of Idaho.

Marvin served as a veteran of foreign wars with the US Army at the Army Security Agency in Thailand.  Upon his honorable discharge he served as a Police Officer with the Seattle PD for 10 years then as a Superintendent of Fisherman Bay Sewer District on Lopez Island for 15 years.

Marvin met the love of his life, Pauline Jones in Pocatello, Idaho and they married on Sept 3, 1960. They started a family and when Marvin graduated from the University of Idaho, they moved to Seattle and subsequently to Lopez Island. Marvin and Pauline lived on Lopez Island for 26 years before moving to Anacortes. They enjoyed their retirement exploring the surrounding area on bicycles, walking and sailing and travelled to Europe to celebrate their newfound freedom.

Marvin was a voracious reader of nonfiction and historical novels. He was very interested in politics and loved to discuss current events with friends and family.  Marvin was a builder: as an avid bicyclist, he built his own custom bikes to take him on his long-distance bicycling adventures; ferro-cement sailboats; a stone barn and his own home.

Marvin was predeceased by his parents and son.  He is survived by his wife of 62 1/2 years, Pauline; daughter Jerani (David Horne, husband); and his brothers, Dennis and Roger.  In a private family service, Marvin will be laid to rest at Lopez Union Cemetery on Lopez Island. Per Marvin's request, there will not be a public service.
