Nadine
Hagel
Aug 7, 1934 — Sep 21, 2022
Lopez
Nadine Hagel, 88, of Lopez Island, WA died Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Heavenly Care Adult Family Home of Guemes Island, WA where she was lovingly cared for the last 7 years of her life. Nadine lived the last 25 years of her life with a very slowly progressive dementia most likely stemming from a serious head injury she incurred at 8 years of age when ice skating on a pond. She was unconscious for three days following her fall on the ice. She began experiencing memory loss noticeably in 1997 at 63 years of age.
Marian Nadine Ferry was born August 7, 1934 in Spokane, WA, the daughter of Roy Willard and Helen El Dora (Wilkinson) Ferry. Nadine grew up and spent her life in Spokane until 1997 when she moved to Lopez Island, WA. She graduated from Cheney High School on June 1, 1951 and married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Edwin Hagel , October 18, 1953 after working for a year as a telephone operator.
Nadine was a devoted wife and mother. She raised twins. Rodney Hagel continues to live in Spokane in the home Wayne built for Nadine in 1954 and has raised his own family there. Robin Hagel Patterson VanHyning, moved to the San Juan Islands in 1995 and lived on Lopez Island the past 7 years in the house Wayne and Nadine built there.
Wayne and Nadine loved the San Juan Islands and purchased property on Lopez Island, WA in 1981 and spent as much time as possible there until their full-time retirement in 1997 when they moved to the home on 97 Hanson Lane.
Nadine was a bit of a renaissance woman and could do most anything she put her mind to. She was very accomplished as a homemaker, farm hand, bookkeeper, Precinct Committee Woman, and led many groups and bible studies at her church in Spokane. She enjoyed working with Wayne building their home in Spokane, working on their ranch in Reardan, WA, raising Beefmaster cattle on their farm in Spokane, and then building their home on Lopez. Once on Lopez they attended the Community Church and then Christ the King until Wayne passed away in 2009 and Nadine was no longer able to. She and Wayne loved each other dearly all their lives and they will be rejoicing to be reunited in heaven.
Nadine is survived by her two children; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Rodney James Hagel of Spokane – his wife, Sherri and their four children: Ryan Edwin Hagel, wife Aimee and their children – Riley Edwin, Liam Alexander, Teagan Patrick, and Kinsey Lee. Forest Hagel of Spokane, Ruth (& Erik) Dahlen of Bend, OR, and Rosetta Hagel of Spokane. Robin Jayne Hagel Patterson VanHyning, of Bellingham, WA, husband Curt VanHyning, daughter Rachel Joy Domico and her husband Spencer.
Nadine was predeceased by her parents, and three siblings (two brothers and one sister) and they have gone before her: Bette Jeanne El Dora Theriot, James Marvin Ferry and Gail Lynn Ferry.
