Theresa Marie Bowen, fondly known as Terre to all who knew her, was called home to God on May 1, 2023, at the age of 95. She was surrounded by her loving family when she passed peacefully at home. Terre was born on August 26, 1927 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Stephen and Mary (Seneck) Wascak and sibling to Helen, Anthony, Michael and Stephen, Jr.

Terre spent her early years and education in OH and at age 21 she ventured out on her own to San Francisco to be with her best friend Lynn and her husband, Jack. Roller Skating was a popular sport in the 1940s and Terre was exceptionally enthralled with it. At one of her skating outings, she met the love of her life, Loren Loomis Bowen, a native of Bucoda, WA whose family had moved to Anacortes in 1934. Loren was serving in the US Navy at the time when they met at the rink. Loren caught Terre's eye and she knew he was the one for her. So she purposely tripped him in order to get his attention. The feelings were obviously mutual as the couple soon married in California. As a side anecdote, Loren was born on August 25, 1927. Upon completion of Loren's naval service, they made Anacortes their home.

Three children, two daughters and one son were born to them. The house they lived and raised their family in was built by Loren. This house served the Bowen Family as their home for 72 years. Both Loren and Terre passed at the same spot in their home in the month of May. Loren was the breadwinner and Terre took care of home affairs as well as participated in the community they lived in. Terre was very talented modiste, she made costumes for the Croatian Folk Dancers, by hand for dozens of different performances. She was also skilled in crochet, knitting and embroidery and she donated her handcrafted items to church bazaars. Terre found time to volunteer at the local hospital in the late 80s through the 90s. She was very much involved in her local parish of St. Mary in Anacortes, volunteering in the Altar Society Guild, Funeral Luncheon and Rummage Sale.

Terre was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and siblings Helen Christine (John), Michael and Anthony. She is survived by her brother, Stephen (Elizabeth); children: Michael (Norma Jean), Diana (Bruce Hamilton) and Alice; grandchildren: Patrick, Erin, Kathleen, Meghan, Kevin, Ava and Sheila; great grandchild, Lachlan.

Terre was laid to rest next to her husband Loren at Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes. A Memorial Service for Terre will be scheduled at a later date and announced at her memorial site: www.evanschapel.com/obituary/terre-bowen where you may also share memories of her with her family. Suggested donations in the name of Terre may be made to St. Mary Church in Anacortes, WA .
