Betty Jean Pringle, 93, of Anacortes, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, at Whispering Willow in Mount Vernon. Born December 19, 1932, in Tacoma to Nick and Elizabeth Heidt, Betty was a radiant soul filled with unwavering Christian faith and endless love for her family. The second of eight children of German descent, she met the love of her life, Jack John Pringle, on a 1952 blind date while he was home on R & R in Fort Lewis from the Korean War. Their quick courtship led to a joyful marriage months later of meeting, at Calvary Baptist Church in Tacoma, blessing them with 74 beautiful years together.

Upon Jack's honorable discharge as Cpl. from the US Army in 1953, Jack took up retail sales in the grocery business with Thrifty Foods in Burlington.  The Pringles moved from Tacoma to Mount Vernon while Jack worked at Thrifty's. As a dedicated RN with an AA degree, Betty poured her heart into nursing home care for over 40 years while nurturing her growing family in Anacortes, their home since 1969.

In 1975 a pioneering venture arose in Alaska for heavy equipment handler/foreman for the building of roads and development of towns in SE of Alaska. The remuneration was excellent in return for 12-20 hour 7/days a week in severe austere conditions for a period of five years. Jack's application for the position and with his military background in consideration, made him ideal for the position. Jack was offered the position to lead heavy equipment operation for the project.

Betty bravely placed her nursing career on hold, packed herself and her children, to join Jack in remote Southeast Alaska as camp cook while he served as heavy equipment foreman building roads and towns. This petite but mighty woman kept the crew in line with warmth and strength; the whole family—including their seven children, ages 11 to 19—worked tirelessly together 12-20 hours a day for five years, with daughter Robin serving as camp communications coordinator for bush planes and boats between Alaska and Anacortes. Two more children were born during this cherished adventure before they joyfully returned to Anacortes in 1980.

Betty resumed her loving nursing career at San Juan Nursing Home in Anacortes, until work related injury led to her total disability. Jack, in the meantime, upon return from Alaska, found work in a rock quarry in Mount Vernon, later transitioning to a screening rock specialist for 20 years as foreman at Concrete Nor'west in Oak Harbor, retiring at 81. Their only other special trip was a heartfelt visit to Germany for son Dan's wedding to Annette. Dan was deployed to Germany as an Army Sergeant when he met the love of his life, Annette Maibach.

Through it all, Betty's deep faith, joyful family gatherings, devoted homemaking, and talent for crocheting wove a legacy of warmth and love.

Betty was predeceased by son Rick, an Army veteran, her parents and all her siblings.  She is survived by husband Jack; sons: Dan (Annette), Army veteran of Desert Storm; John, retired high school teacher; Gary (Christi), retired Army veteran (82nd Airborne, Grenada) and retired school principal; daughters: Sileen, retired RN; Debbie (Lee Evans-owner of The Clipper), school teacher; Beverly (Jim Bramblet), veterinary office admin support; Robin (Lloyd Carter, retired Navy and retired police sergeant of Oak Harbor); Kimberly (Bill Marsh, retired Navy SEAL); and numerous cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins.
