Curt Johnson, 55, of Anacortes, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 9, 2026. He was born on November 11, 1970, in Anacortes to parents: Iver and Cheryl Johnson.

Born with a seizure disorder, Curt lived at home with family his whole life facing often limited activities and outings based on his safety. A stop at Starbucks or Dairy Queen was always a perfect ending to any outing.  Curt did not allow his limitations to hinder him.  He was a graduate of Anacortes High School with the Class of 1990 and endeavored to lead a purposeful life after his graduation, as his career choices indicate.

His favorite career choice was as an Apparatus Detailer at Anacortes Fire Department before his health declined due to cancer; previously he worked as Courtesy Clerk at Safeway, Associate at West Marine, Tool Maintenance at Dakota Creek Industries and Furniture Restorer at Left Bank Antiques. Of all his various work experiences, the Anacortes Fire Department was THE BEST!

Living in Anacortes, Curt met and knew many people. Everyone became his friend and held a special place in his life.

For most of his life, Curt spent the summer months on annual family boating trips. A favorite destination on these trips was always Cordero Lodge in British Columbia; he enjoyed spending time with great friends and getting to help with odd jobs around the lodge. When able, Curt always liked dropping a fishing line in the water to see what he could catch. A highlight of Curt's life occurred while boating in Canada, where twice he got to visit an active logging camp and run some of the equipment.

Curt loved trains! He cherished the time spent with his Dad building a HO model train layout at home. He loved working on that project. He was a member of the Anacortes Model Railroad Club.

Two road trips with his parents to Portola California were highlights of Curt's life where each time he got to drive a real locomotive train on tracks within a working railroad yard. Any train ride, long or short, was fun for Curt.

Curt volunteered at the Anacortes Senior Center and was an active member of the Kiwanis Aktion Club for many years, serving a two-year term as President. He always looked forward to helping at the monthly e-Cycle program. Through Aktion Club participation, Curt learned about the Meals on Wheels program in Skagit County. An annual fundraiser inspired Curt and ignited his passion for helping people. He became a "Champion" in collecting many thousands of dollars over the years which benefitted many senior citizens in Skagit County.

Curt enjoyed bowling, first with Special Olympics and later with the Buttons and Beaus league, as well as participating in several Bowling Bashes that raised money for Meals on Wheels.

Curt had many pets touch his life over the years; dogs, cats, and fish. In his later years he was especially fond of his brother's golden retriever 'Aidan'.

Curt enjoyed music, especially classic western, trucking, 60's, and logging artists.

Curt was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

His best friend and a true mentor was his Grandpa Johnson.

Over the last year of his life, Curt got to have his own cell phone. For something that so many of us take for granted, to Curt the phone represented an independence and freedom that he had not gotten to experience much throughout his life. He learned how to use the phone to research things and look up information about his cancer. He listened to music, took pictures, and got to call and text his family and many friends.

Over the years Curt had wonderful medical care for his seizures and later for the cancer. Recently his doctors, RN's, and entire oncology team from Peace Health Oncology and Radiation Departments in Sedro Woolley became like family to Curt. His family is so thankful to each and every person that touched Curt's life throughout his 55 years.

Curt was preceded in death by his grandparents on both sides of the family: Iver and Louise Johnson / Albert and Marion Brandt.  He is survived by his parents, brother Eric Johnson (Jerry Hansen), aunts, uncles and cousins and many, many friends.

A Memorial Service with a reception will be held at Evans Funeral Chapel at 1pm on Saturday, January 31, 2026. A private graveside service was held at Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes.
