Darwin Ralph Wogan, 81, passed away on Thursday Sept. 26, 2024, at Anacortes, WA. He fought a long hard battle with Alzheimers.
Darwin was born to Verl Vinton Wogan and Frances Mae (Hill) Wogan on Sept. 24, 1943, in Marshalltown, Iowa. He grew up on a farm in Green Mountain, Iowa and graduated from Green Mountain High School in 1961. Darwin married Shiela Ann Hemmingson on Feb. 4, 1966, in Bellingham, WA. In 1967 they moved to Iowa. They lived in Iowa a little over 9 years, before moving back to Washington. In 1976, they moved to Anacortes, WA. He retired from the Navy in 1997. He also retired from the carpenters local 1532 in 2003.
After retirement, Darwin and Shiela spent 9 years in their RV traveling around the United States. Darwin loved camping and vacationing with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with Mike and Tom. Those three always came up with some pretty funny hunting stories! Darwin had a great sense of humor. After much convincing he finally agreed to go on a big Wogan family Cruise in 2008. He enjoyed that so much, that we went on several more with family and friends.
Darwin is survived by his wife Shiela, his son David Wogan (April Glica) of Washugal, WA. His Daughter Darla Wogan (Ray Hill) Anacortes, WA. His three grandchildren, Amanda (Brandon) Hering, Jamie (Linda) Stockmoe, and Kyersten Sanchez-Wogan (Johnny Oropeza). His great granddaughter Lyliana, and great grandsons Benny and Josiah. His sister Cheryl (Jack) Freet, and brother Darrell Wogan Sr., his sister-in-law Hilda Meryhew, and brother-in-law Lester (Sandy) Hemmingson. As well as several Nieces and Nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Verl, his mother Frances "Mae", his brother Bobby, and his sister-in-law Evelyn Wogan.
