Diane Catherine
Schreder Birkeland
Sep 12, 1959 — Apr 27, 2024
Anacortes
Diane Catherine Schreder Birkeland, 64, of Anacortes, Washington, passed away on April 27, 2024, after a battle with cancer. Diane was born on September 12, 1959, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was a resident in Anacortes for 38 years.
She retired from Naval Supply Systems Command where she worked in the shipping and receiving warehouse for 32 years. She was recognized for multiple awards by NAVSUP as one of the most efficient, reliable, and productive packers. She consistently exceeded the requirements of her job, meticulously applying her solid shipping and packing background in the processing of Aviation Depot Level Repairables. Diane embodied the "Team Whidbey" spirit and continued to provide outstanding service and support to local commands, squadrons, and maintenance activities until she retired in 2021.
She was an Elks Member and Junior Chamber of Commerce Member in Anacortes. She loved boating in the San Juans, bowling, rooting for the 49ers, sunny vacations and spending time with her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Diane's positive attitude, adventurous spirit, and never-ending laughter made it easy for her to meet new people and make lifelong friends. Throughout her battle with cancer not once did she complain or want those around her to pity her, but only see her as someone who loves life, shares happiness and enjoys buying new hats. Her family was her world and she would do anything for them. She was a great influence on everyone around her and a true model of what a caregiver is.
Diane is predeceased by her husband, Roger Dale Birkeland, and her father, Ronald Bernard Schreder. She is survived by her two children, Rogette Alice Buchmann and Kenneth Dale Birkeland; two grandchildren, Dixie Lyn Birkeland and Kynsie Rayn Buchmann; her mother, Alice Theresa Schreder; partner, Marion Anton Lovric; siblings, Linda Marie Williams, Nancy Ann Menard, Steven Anthony Schreder .
