Douglas Roy Myers was born  March 25, 1931 at home in Burbank, Ca. to Clark Dero Myers and Alice Garretson.  His mother died when he was four years old and he lived in foster care on a ranch in the San Fernando Valley until his father remarried.  He graduated from Glendale High School in Glendale, CA in 1949 and then went into the Air Force where he served as a load master for 4 years during the Korean War.  He returned to Glendale and working for Ralphs Grocery Company where he started working as a box boy while in high school. He also went to Glendale Community College studying Accounting and later studied computer programing. He worked his way into management at Ralphs and met and married Delma Allred on September 8, 1957.  Over the next seven years they had 5 children.  He was active in Indian Guides, Cub and Boy Scouts. He had a German Shephard dog he trained on hand signals and they entered dog obedience shows and he has many trophies that they won.

In 1971 they moved to Anchorage, AK where he established his own business-Arctic Ram Corp. DBA the Black Market and the Source Bookstore.  He was active with the Boy Scouts and Junior Girl Scouts of Anchorage.   He served on the Board of the Anchorage Glacier Pilots baseball team and sponsored a player for the Alaska Aces Professional Hockey team . He had three Ford Mustang Pace cars-two of which he restored back to original condition and he had numerous trophies from showing them in car shows. One of his hobbies and great loves was Genealogy.  He had over 22,000 records of his family and his wife's family going back hundreds of years. Through his genealogy he found his half brother Donald he had seen only several times since their mother had died.  It had been seventy years since they they had seen each other when he and Delma made several  visits to Denver to see him before he died two years later at 94. He tried to convince every person he had contact with including while at medical appointments to go down the road of discovery finding their family history through genealogy. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Druids fraternity and served on both the local board and on the International Board. He and Delma enjoyed traveling to Germany, Sweden and Australia to the International Congresses and had many friends through the Druids. When their 60th wedding anniversary was approaching he proposed to Delma that they get remarried, so they went to Las Vegas and with family members and friends present they renewed their vows on Sept 8, 2017  at the Little Chapel of the Flowers

In 2018 they moved to Lopez Island, WA to their vacation home of over 40 years.  He loved to just sit in the living room and enjoy the view of Mud Bay while listening to mellow music.  This was such a change for a man who was always so active in his life.  He commented to Delma that moving to their home on Lopez full time was the best thing they had ever done for themselves. Since moving to Lopez he became a beekeeper. The honey they produced was his favorite addition to toast or a PB sandwich.  He had a room full of a model railroad layout he designed and built. He was active in the Genealogy Group on Lopez and also loved going to the Senior Lunches and socializing with the friends he met there. He had a quick wit and enjoyed humorous bantering talk with people even on his last day here.  He was described as a character through and through.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his five half siblings and his son John Clark Myers.  He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years Delma, four children, Dorinda Myers of Port Ludlow, WA, Marlise and Stephen Simon of Caldwell, ID, Matthew Myers of Dubai, and Colleen and Allen Glover of Anchorage, AK.  He had ten grandchildren  Gunnar Ohnstad, Jordan Cavallaro (Myers), Brittany Chapin (Simon), Grayson Ohnstad, Christian Simon. Forrest Myers, Dawson Glover, Courtney Ohnstad, Drake Glover, Dominique Anderson (Simon).  He also had six greatgrandchildren. For a man who didn't like cats he was won over by a rescue cat found in their driveway in Anchorage who lost her eyesight 8 years ago (Sweetpea).  They brought her with them to Lopez and she slept under his arm every night.

He will be buried in the Lopez Union Cemetery.  There will be a celebration of his life on Lopez Sunday December 1, 2024.
