"There are no fast answers to slow questions"…

Anyone who knew George had heard the quote. Some would say it defined him. He was a lifelong learner and avid reader. His reading choices were deep, philosophical and educational. He did not begin reading novels until late in life.

There were many chapters to George's life. Born in Baltimore, MD he was the only child of Grace Meekins (nee Taylor) and George Meekins III. He was heavily influenced by his paternal Grandmother, Laura Rock, who he lived with during part of his childhood. She prepared him to respect strong women. He married Joan Hartley when they were young and had two children together (Robin and George V) during their 13 years of marriage. After they divorced, he married Joanie Meekins (nee Buckleman) for 13 years, as well. Later, after they divorced, he married Jodi Meekins (nee. Moulthrop) who he would be married to for 32 years.

It was during this last chapter of his life that he built a good life on Guemes Island with his wife and many wonderful friends. Plus, even though he was separated by distance, he continued his close relationship with his son, George the 5th.

In retirement he stayed very busy. The activities that brought him the most joy were mentor/tutoring at the Anacortes School District, joining the Guemes Island Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter and EMT, helping friends with their computer woes and traveling with Jodi.

Preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Robin. George is survived by his wife Jodi, son George V, granddaughters Lilah and Clara, and cousin Elaine. Since George could, and would, talk to anyone, anywhere, he is also survived by many friends.

Remembrances can be made to Hospice of the Northwest in Mount Vernon.
