Gloria (Midge) Fraser of Anacortes, Wash., passed away from congestive heart failure on June 25, 2023. She was 94.
Born Gloria Mae Mattson in Everett, Wash., on December 31, 1928, she was the only child of Ruth (née Meech) and Enar Mattson.
Her mother passed away when she was five, and after her father died when Midge was 15, she was raised by her maternal grandparents. She graduated from Everett High School in 1947 and spent one year at Everett Junior College.
She danced her way into a career at Veloz & Yolanda, a prominent studio in Seattle in the 1950s, teaching ballroom dancing.
Her first marriage, to Louis Amengual of Caracas, Venezuela, saw the birth of her first son, Vince, in 1951. After their divorce, Gloria married Harry Edward Peltzer, of Des Moines, Wash., in 1956 with whom she had three more sons, Todd, Scott and Brett. The couple eventually moved from Seattle to Eugene, Ore. They divorced in 1987.
Gloria worked as a receptionist at the Easter Seals Pool in Eugene for several years. While visiting Hawaii she met her future third husband, William Graham Fraser of Castro Valley, Calif. The two were married in 1993 and moved to Anacortes in 1995, where she was a long-time member of the Dr. Samuel G. Brooks Guild. She was well known for her homemade berry jams.
Midge is survived by sons: Vince (Anicia) Peltzer, Todd (Sandy) Peltzer, Scott (Neelam Al-Angurli) Peltzer, and Brett Peltzer; stepdaughter Karen Fraser (Mark Middleton); granddaughters: Nicole Peltzer (Gage Mohelsky), Emma and Willa Al-Angurli Peltzer, Nicole (Ron Runyan) and grandson US Army Lieutenant Colonel Robert (Melissa) Erdman; step granddaughter Valerie (Paul Summer) and step grandson Kirk Middleton. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Karli and Michael Erdman, Gary Mohelsky, and her step great grandson Ollie Summer. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Graham Fraser.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Dr. Samuel G. Brooks Guild or the Anacortes Kiwanis Club scholarship fund.
