Janet Louise Rice, 78, of Anacortes, WA, passed away on March 18, 2024. Born on December 6, 1945, in Seattle, she was a beloved mentor to many and cherished spending time with family and friends. Her favorite place was the family cabin in Winthrop.
Janet, as she was known professionally, graduated from Federal Way High School and later from Western Washington University. She began her career as a second-grade teacher at Fidalgo Elementary before transitioning to run a saw-sharpening business with her late husband, Dave. She later returned to the Anacortes School District as a para-educator until she retired in 2008. In her free time, Janet enjoyed scrapbooking, camping, and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter, Alicia Montour, her son, Craig Rice (Maia), and her grandchildren - Mallory and Camden Montour, Lexi, Cole Rice as well as her sister Jeannie Coogan, sister in-law, Mari Knapp and brother in-law, Gerd Krause. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Dave, her parents, Don and Ruth Knapp, and her brother, Richard Knapp.
A service to celebrate Janet's life will be held on April 13, 2024, at 1 o'clock at the Croatian Culture Center, 801 5th Street, Anacortes.
