Judy Crowell Maynor, a lifelong resident and beloved community fixture of Gardnerville, Nevada, passed away on September 22nd in Anacortes.

Born at home on January 14, 1946, in Gardnerville, Nevada, to the late Roy and Ina Crowell. She grew up in the Carson Valley, graduating from Douglas High School in 1963. She went on to attend the University of Nevada, Reno, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1967. During her university years, she was a member of the yearbook staff and proudly pledged Tri-Delta sorority. Decades later, her enduring passion for learning led her to earn a Master of Education in Technology from Lesley University.

On October 28, 1972, Judy married Gale Maynor in Gardnerville. Though they temporarily lived in Southern California, their hearts belonged to Northern Nevada, where they ultimately settled and raised their family.

Judy dedicated her life to shaping young minds as an elementary school teacher, embarking on a remarkable 38-year career in education. She spent nearly 25 of those years teaching second grade before "graduating" to third grade. She loved her students fiercely and treasured the deep, lifelong friendships she formed with her colleagues at Jacks Valley Elementary School, where she spent the majority of her career before retiring in 2007.

Beyond the classroom, Judy's passion for youth extended into the sports community. For over 25 years, she was deeply involved with both USA and High School Swimming across Northern Nevada and California. Guided by a steadfast commitment to ensuring children always had a positive experience and a chance to compete, she poured countless hours into the sport.

Her spiritual life was equally vital to her, nourished faithfully by Christ Presbyterian Church in Minden, where she served as a church elder and deacon.

Judy was always willing to give her time and talents to a worthy cause. Her contributions to the Carson Valley community will be fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.

Judy is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Danielle), and grandsons, Calvin and Everett; her daughter, Michelle (James Mynderse), and grandsons, Carter and Alex; and countless friends who considered her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gale; her parents, Royal and Ina Crowell; and her brother, Royal.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in memory of Judy Maynor be made to: University of Nevada, Reno Foundation/0162, 1664 N. Virginia St., Reno, NV 89557 where a scholarship for elementary ed majors will be established in her name.

Memorial Services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, November 7th at Genoa Town Hall in Nevada. Light refreshments will follow.
