Marlene Ruth Welk, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, at the age of 86, at Ashley Gardens in Mount Vernon, Washington.

Born and raised in Anacortes, WA, Marlene cherished her family, her faith in Jesus, and her childhood growing up on a farm at March's Point near Anacortes.  Her love of music blossomed early, and she became a gifted pianist, organist, and accordion player—talents she joyfully shared throughout her life, especially in her church community.

Marlene met the love of her life, Don Welk, at church, and they were married on September 12, 1959. Their devotion to one another spanned 62 years until Don's passing in 2022. Together, they built a life rooted in love, service, and resilience. Marlene worked at Shell Oil to support Don through dental school, a testament to her strength and unwavering support. Their journey took them from Seattle to Lexington, Kentucky, and eventually to Oklahoma City, where Don led the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Oklahoma. They called Oklahoma home for nearly five decades.

Marlene was most known for her warmth and generosity as a homemaker and her legendary baking—her kitchen was a place of comfort and joy for all who entered. She had a creative spirit, selling handmade items and collectibles, and remained deeply involved in her church throughout her life. She played hymns on the organ and piano with heartfelt devotion and participated in ministries such as Angel Tree, always eager to serve others.

She frequently hosted relatively elaborate dental department faculty dinners as well as dinners for their church Sunday school group. She also welcomed hosting family and friends especially around the holidays.

She is survived by her son Kevin Welk and his wife Cara; grandchildren Kyann Arendse, Nolan Arendse, and Lydia Welk; her brother Harvey Buer and his wife Suzie; and her sister Delores Johnson and husband Rodney along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Her legacy lives on in the music she played, the love she gave, and the lives she touched.

Marlene will be remembered for her faith in Jesus, her music, her kindness, and the love she poured into her family and community.
