Torsten Paulsen, 69 of Anacortes, fondly known as Paul, passed peacefully at his residence with his loving wife and two stepdaughters in attendance, on January 18, 2023. He was born in List, Germany, the son of Soeren & Marlies (Quest) Paulsen on April 1, 1953.  The family moved to Brooklyn in 1960 and then later moved Long Island, NY.  Torsten was 18 years old then and he enlisted in the US Navy and became a career Navy Man in their aeronautical department.

He was honorably discharged as Chief Petty Officer of Aviation Structural Mechanic (Safety Equipment) AMEC after 24 years of service which included being stationed in Miramar, San Diego in 1976; a tour of Vietnam in the USS Constellation; in 1982 he served on the USS Enterprise in Alameda, CA and later he was stationed in Guam. He received many awards and citations and was able to further his education in the aviation field while he was in service.

In the interim, Torsten married Perlina, a single mom of two and together, they had a son Kenny. The marriage ended in a divorce, and he remarried again. A daughter Sharon was born to him and Sofia. That marriage too, ended in a divorce. After his military service, Torsten found employment with Aviation Technical Services in Everett Washington. In 2004 Torsten met the love of his life, Susan. She was a nurse in Oncology at Island Hospital and was his nurse when he was receiving treatments. In 2005 they blended their families and tied the knot in Loveland, Colorado. Paul started his own business: Third Day Handyman Services, where he provided handyman services to single and widowed moms with children as well as to older men and couples.

Susan and Paul enjoyed travelling and often took off to visit family and friends.  After being cancer free for 17 years, the cancer returned to his pancreas and metastasized to his liver. Paul passed almost a year after his diagnosis. Paul is a man of faith, and his quiet, empathetic nature attracted many people who were sad and hurting.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and brother Soeren. He is survived by his wife Susan; his children: Kenny (Terry) Paulsen, Sharon (Will) Haag; adopted daughters: Lourdes (Jamie Dertinger) and Michelle (Lawrence Indgjer), and stepdaughters: Miriam (partner: Rafael Gonzales), Molly & Jenny Taylor; grandchildren: Kayla, Alyssa Paulsen; Ashley, Kathryn, Jon Haag; Samantha Dertinger; Daniel, Mackenzie Indgjer; and Leonora Gonzales Taylor.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors is scheduled to be held 2 pm Saturday, February 25th at Christ the King Church in Burlington. A reception will follow the service at the church.
