Peggy Helen
Neils
Mar 28, 1948 — Mar 1, 2025
Anacortes
Peggy Helen Neils, 76, of Anacortes, Washington, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, in Island Hospital. Born on March 28, 1948, in Seattle, Washington, to Rudolph and Margaret Nichols, Peggy lived a vibrant life filled with adventure, love, and a deep appreciation for art, travel, and the companionship of friends and family.
Peggy's professional journey led her to a successful career as the Hospitality Department Manager at the Kiva Club at Vistancia, a private golf course in Peoria, Arizona, known for its resort-like amenities and engaging lifestyle. It was there that she met the love of her life, William Clarence "Bill" Neils. The two shared a passion for exploration, traveling to breathtaking destinations such as Africa, Venice, China, Australia, and New Zealand—dreaming one day of retiring in the latter. Together, they also enjoyed countless sea excursions aboard their 65-foot yacht, navigating the waters of Alaska, British Columbia, and the San Juan Islands, often with friends in tow.
Peggy and Bill lived as snowbirds, splitting their time between Clarkdale, Arizona and Anacortes, Washington. In Arizona, they cherished time with close friends John and Sylvia Arena, relaxing on a houseboat at Lake Powell, a beloved vacation spot. They also delighted in dining at local eateries, a tradition Peggy continued after Bill's passing in 2011. Though their dream of retiring in New Zealand never came to fruition, Peggy made Anacortes her permanent home, where she nurtured lifelong friendships and attended monthly luncheons with her lady friends. Visitors from near and far were treated to her favorite local haunts, including Nona Luisa Ristorante in Anacortes for authentic Italian cuisine and Nicky's Bella Marina in Bellingham, celebrated for its award-winning fish and chips.
An avid Cat art enthusiast, Peggy's home showcased an eclectic collection of her favorite pieces, reflecting her deep love for cats. Before her sudden passing, she had adopted two kittens, Biscuit and Emma. Thankfully, they found a new home with a loving family who had recently lost their own feline companion.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Margaret Nichols, and her beloved husband, Bill Neils, who passed away on July 13, 2011. She leaves behind Bill's sons Randy (Cathy) Smith and Michael (Eliza) Neils, Bill's 7 Grandchildren and his 10 Great Grandchildren, all who he cherished. She also leaves behind her cherished friends, John (Sylvia) Arena, Mary Beardsley, Marleen Kelly and Jerry (Sandra) Strandlund, who were like family to her.
