Rickey Lee
Hartman
Apr 3, 1956 — Apr 5, 2024
Friday Harbor
Rickey Lee Hartman, age 68, passed away, unexpectedly, on April 5, 2024, in Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, WA, while he was at work. He was born to Edwin and Darlene Hartman on April 3, 1956, in Greeley, CO. In 1971, Rickey after spending his early years in Nebraska moved to Colorado with his mom, stepdad, and siblings. In 1989, he made San Juan Island his permanent home and fell in love with the community, so much so, that he rarely left the Island for 35 years.
Rick began working in drywall construction at the young age of 16, alongside his stepfather, Richard TroBaugh. In 1990, the two opened San Juan Dry Wall and in the following year, R and R Sportscards in Friday Harbor, a beloved spot for local kids. Rick was known for his hard work and dedication to his craft. After Richard retired, Rick continued his work with Bill Cobos of West Coast Walls for 18 years.
Outside of work, Rick was passionate about animals, especially dogs, and spent countless hours with his family pets. He was also an avid reader, with a vast library filled with hundreds of books. Although he never married, Rick cherished the time spent with his niece, nephews, and cousins.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Edwin Earl Hartman, and nephew Jason Brockmann. He is survived by his parents, Darlene and Richard TroBaugh, his siblings, Randy (Amy) Hartman of Colorado Springs, CO, and his sister Tammy Hartman Brockmann of Kendall, WA; nephews: Jeremy (Ellie) Brockman of Seattle, Matthew Hartman of Colorado Springs, Mitchell (Melissa) Hartman of Fort Collins, CO; niece, Amanda Hartman Davis (Joel) of Colorado Springs, and many cousins.
Rick Hartman will be remembered for his strong work ethic, kind heart, and love for his community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
